My tutorial with teacher Simon was very helpful. Last week, I didn't encounter Rachel on campus. I sent her an email but haven't received a reply to date. Considering the current situation, I plan to stop using mycelium material and instead consider switching to ceramics or glass materials. The main reasons are as follows:
There are indeed some safety issues with mycelium materials. Last Friday, the apartment was inspected, and the inspectors found the mycelium materials I had made and informed me that mycelium experiments are not allowed in the apartment.
The cultivation of mycelium requires a strict sterile environment, which is difficult to achieve outside the laboratory. It is neither convenient nor sustainable to borrow labs from other schools long-term. Moreover, I know the college prefers students to utilize on-campus resources. Considering these points, I think it would be more convenient to use the ceramic studio at Camberwell College.
The initial reason I chose to join the MA Designer Maker course was to learn more about materials and craftsmanship. I hope to receive more support and guidance in this area, and I know that you have extensive experience with ceramics.
Currently, there are not many artists using mycelium materials, especially in the fields of product and jewelry design.
