In this week’s reflective journal, I delve into the contextual research that has shaped my understanding of design as both a form of expression and a dialogue with the past. Inspired by Yeo Byonguk's philosophy of vessels, from 'Silence to Being', and the expansive wisdom found within the library’s hallowed walls, I've come to appreciate the vessel not merely as an object but as a space — a medium through which the silent stories of ancestry and artistry echo.

Yeo’s vessels, crafted with coiling techniques that carve space within space, manifest as forms that transcend their material confines. In the quiet corners of the library, I discovered parallels between Yeo's work and the ancestral narratives embedded in Gabriel's ceramic pieces. Each artifact, with its own tale, teaches me the language of forms and the vocabulary of silence.

Engaging with Simon in the Contextual Research workshop, I learned to curate inspirations not through algorithms but through the tactile pages of history and the curated galleries of established museums. The textured surfaces of Akiko Hirai's pottery, layered with history and technique, resonate with my journey, urging me to weave the strands of tradition into the fabric of modern design practices.

As I arrange my Miro board, each image and text is a reminder of the delicate interplay between form and meaning, inviting me to explore the depths beneath the surface, much like the interiors of Yeo’s vessels — unseen but profoundly present. This week, I have not only observed but have engaged in a conversation with the legacy of design, informed by the rich resources that surround me.
